Camper only: 2021 Northern Lite 10-2 EX from a Colorado yard to Flagstaff through m&a, and what did not come with it

promised this in the payload thread. this is the buying part.

we had a 2008 Palomino pop-up on the Ram for five years and my wife was done with canvas after a monsoon night at Lockett Meadow. i wanted a Northern Lite because the two piece fiberglass shell does not have the seams that rot on stick built campers, and they hold their value, which is the problem. 2021 10-2s were 48 to 55 on the rv sites in the spring.

in april i found a 2021 10-2 EX wet bath on M&A Auto Sales, camper only, no truck, at a lender yard in Commerce City on the north side of Denver. the listing had 45 photos, the serial plate, the inside of every cabinet and a short video of the furnace lighting. i bid 38,900 sealed and got it.

their sheet said 612 road miles, Commerce City to my driveway, so the delivery was free, under the 1,000 mile line. it showed up 11 days after i wired the money.

what did not come with it. the wired remote for the electric jacks, and any tie-down hardware. both stayed with whoever's truck it used to ride on, i assume. the remote was 78 dollars from Rieco-Titan and took a week. the tie-downs were already on the Ram from the Palomino, so i got lucky there. neither one was in the listing or the photos, so i cannot say anybody hid it from me. i just did not think to ask.

the part i want to hear about is the 612 miles. a camper with no truck under it is a strange shaped thing to ship. how did it ride, and how did you get it off whatever it came on without a forklift?

hotshot driver out of Pueblo with a 40 foot gooseneck flatbed behind a 3500. the camper rode on the deck sitting on cribbing, 2x6s under the floor, jacks pulled up, four ratchet straps over the top with edge protectors where they crossed the roof corners. the m&a people sent me his name and cell number the day before so i knew when he would be here.

unloading was the scary part and it took twenty minutes. he backed the trailer next to my driveway, i ran the jacks down with a borrowed remote he had in his truck, which is when i found out mine was missing, and it lifted off the cribbing. he pulled the trailer out from under it slowly. then it sat on its jacks in the street until i backed the Ram under it. my neighbor watched the whole thing with a coffee.

on a Northern Lite, look at where the top and bottom shells meet, all the way around. that joint is the one place they can leak and it is usually fine, but if a previous owner ran it into a branch the seam takes the hit. also you are at 7,000 feet like me. the furnace and the fridge will both run a little different up there than they did in Denver, so do not panic the first cold night if the furnace takes two tries.

38,900 for a 2021 10-2 EX is a good number. Northern Lites do not drop much. did you ever look at the m&a 30 day guarantee or the warranty, or did you not need to? i am curious what a warranty even covers on a camper with no engine.

did not need the 30 day part. the camper was what the listing said it was, down to a scuff on the rear bumper that was in photo 31. the way i read it, the money back only kicks in if the camper turns out materially different from how it was described, not for changing your mind or a missing remote nobody listed.

the 6 month limited warranty i read once and filed. on a camper it is the systems, not an engine. i have not had to use it. the honest weak spot of this whole deal is not the listing on mandaautollc.com, it is me putting a 10-2 on a 2500. see the payload thread for how that is going.

this is the post i needed two weeks ago. i started a thread about shipping a camper with no truck and the per mile part over 1,000, and the gooseneck and cribbing answer is the piece i was missing. linking it here so the two find each other: shipping a camper that is not on a truck.
