first real trip is the 27th, up Steens Mountain and then out to the Alvord if the playa is dry. before that i would like some eyes that are not mine on this rig. i bought it from photos and i am about to put my wife and a 90 pound yellow lab in it on a gravel road two hours from anything.

what it is. 2020 F-350 Lariat crew cab dually, 6.7 Power Stroke, 58,900 on the clock. 2019 Lance 1172, the one with the big dinette slide, Onan generator, two batteries. they came together as one lot from a bank, sitting at a lender yard outside Billings, and the camper has not been off the truck since it got to my driveway in may.

since it got here: oil and fuel filters at the Ford store, one recall done, new wiper blades. i loaded 18 photos into the gallery under my name. tie-downs, the underside of the cabover, the slide seals, the airbags, the roof. please look at them like it is your rig and tell me what you would fix before Steens.

went through all 18. most of it looks right. the front frame mounts are Torklift and they are on straight, the airbags look like Firestone, roof looks clean for six years old.

photo 11 though. front driver side, the bracket where the turnbuckle hooks onto the camper. the sealant along the top edge of that bracket looks cracked, and the bottom bolt head is sitting proud of the other two. can you get me a close up of just that bracket in daylight, straight on and from the side? i would not drive Steens until i saw it.

nice looking rig. i will ask what everybody else is too polite to. what did that cost you? a truck and a camper as one lot means the bank priced the two together, and that is exactly where people get taken, because nobody knows what a combo is worth.

close up of the bracket is up as photo 19 and 20. torklift, you were right, it is not just sealant. more on that once i pull it this weekend.

dually, fair question. i found it in march on mandaautollc.com, which brokers bank repos. the trucks and campers stay wherever the lender parked them and everybody bids blind. my first try was a 2018 Lance 1062 on an F-250 sitting in Idaho. i put 58,000 on it and got an email a week later that it went to another bidder. no number, never found out what won it. stung a little.

the 1172 lot came up in april. the m&a listing ran to 72 photos plus a video of the slide going out and the generator running under load, and they sent me the door sticker and the camper's serial plate when i asked. sealed bid, you get one number and you can raise your own before it closes but you never see anybody else's. i put in 84,250. the invoice was 84,250 and a delivery line. no premium on top.

delivery: their sheet put it at 1,046 road miles, Billings yard to Bend. first 1,000 are free, the other 46 at 70 cents, so 32 dollars and 20 cents. a driver drove it here, it showed up 13 days after the wire, and it had 1,071 more miles on it than the odometer in the listing pictures.

from photos 19 and 20, the bottom bolt has backed out and spun, you can see the shiny ring where it has been moving. that bracket bolts through the fiberglass into the camper's aluminum frame. every time the truck flexed, that loose bolt rocked the bracket and cracked the sealant, and after a few seasons water gets behind it.

what i would do: take the bracket off. buy a pin type moisture meter, the 25 dollar one from the hardware store is fine, and check the wall around and below the holes. if the spun hole is wallowed out, go up one size in stainless or put in a rivnut. bed it with butyl tape, not silicone. silicone is what was there before and look how that went.

if the meter reads wet over a big area, that is a different conversation.

84,250. ok. i am going to be the guy here.

here in Amarillo a 2020 F-350 Lariat dually with 60k is sitting on lots at 54 to 57 thousand right now. a 2019 1172 private party runs 40 to 45 on the rv sites, i looked tonight. so best case you got it for what the two would cost separately, and you never stood in it, never drove it, and got a cracked bracket thrown in. you bid retail on a bank repo through M and A. the whole point of a repo is supposed to be that it is cheap.

dually your Amarillo comps do not include driving to Amarillo, then finding a camper in a different state, then buying tie-downs and airbags and hauling the camper home to put on the truck. combos come with all that already done. i am not saying 84 was cheap. i am saying it was not as dumb as you make it sound.

kurt, on weight. a wet 1172 with the generator, full propane and water is going to be in the 4,300 to 4,500 range. a 2020 F-350 Lariat crew cab dually is going to be in the 5,000s on the payload sticker, so you have room even with the dog. check the sticker on the driver's door to be sure. those look like Firestone Ride-Rite bags in photo 16. run them around 50 psi loaded and adjust from there until the truck sits level.

bracket. pulled it saturday. the bottom bolt had backed out about a quarter inch and the hole was wallowed. the old silicone was cracked all along the top like torklift said. moisture meter read 12 to 14 everywhere except one spot about three inches below the bracket that read 22. i left the bracket off with a box fan on it for two days and it came down to 15. re-bedded it with butyl tape, went up one size on the bolt in stainless. 31 dollars at the hardware store. ten miles of washboard on China Hat Road and it has not moved.

i also emailed the m&a people about it, mostly to have it on record. they took four days to write back, which was slower than i liked, and asked for photos so they could look at it as a warranty question. i did not push it. it is a six year old camper and a 31 dollar fix, and the listing never said anything about the brackets.

dually, my own comps from this side of the mountains. a 2019 1172 on a consignment lot in Redmond, asking 52,900. two private ones in the Willamette Valley at 46 and 49. a 2020 F-350 Lariat dually at the Ford store here at 63,900 plus their doc fee. that is 110 before you put them together. maybe Texas is cheaper. i was not going to Texas.

newbie, no camper yet, been reading the m&a pages for about a month. my question is about the paper. if the truck and the camper sold as one lot, did you get one title or two? and if the bank had a loan on the truck, how do you know there was not some other loan on the camper that nobody mentioned? that is the part i cannot figure out from the listings.

#10

two sets of paper. the truck title with the bank's lien release on it, and a separate title for the camper, also released. one bill of sale from the bank covering both, with M&A Auto Sales listed as the broker. the listing said clear title with the lender releasing every lien before transfer, and that is what came in the envelope. as for a loan somebody did not mention, a released title is the answer to that, and Oregon DMV ran both before they took my money.

Oregon titles campers separately from the truck, which i knew, and wants a VIN inspection on anything coming in from out of state, which i also knew. what i did not do was bring the camper's bill of sale the first time. second trip to the Bend DMV the next morning. a little over 600 dollars at the counter for both titles, the truck plates and the camper registration. no sales tax in Oregon, which is the one nice part. budget for the DMV, it is not nothing.

moved nine posts about the 6.7 Power Stroke vs the 6.7 Cummins under a heavy camper over to the truck board. nothing deleted, it is all there, go argue in that one. this thread stays on kurt's rig and how he bought it.

1172 specific, since nobody said it yet. pull the slide all the way out on a dry day and look at the bottom seal on the dinette slide, the one you cannot see unless you get on your back with a flashlight. on the older 1172s that seal flattens and the slide floor gets wet in a driving rain. it is a cheap seal, it is just a miserable job.

and i went and looked at the m&a auction out of curiosity after reading this. a Host, two Lances and a Northern Lite up that week. no prices to see, of course, that is the sealed part.

update, and it is not the one i thought i would write.

Steens and the Alvord were great, the bracket stayed dry, the slide seal lance mentioned was flat on the bottom and got replaced in july for 46 dollars and one sore back.

the reason for the update. two weeks ago we went up to the Wallowas. at the Chevron in Enterprise a guy in a Ram with Idaho plates walked around the rig twice while i was fueling. he was from Lewiston. said he had been looking for an 1172 on a dually for a year, and he offered me 98,000 cash right there by the pump. Shelly told me to ask for 105. i said no. we have a trip to the Oregon coast in october and i am not handing over the keys at a gas station.

dually, i am not saying this proves you wrong. a guy at a pump in Enterprise is not a comp. but he is a real number, and it was about 14 thousand more than i paid. if he finds this, m&a auto sales had another truck and camper combo up last week. go bid on that one.
